Intensives in Marin County
Make months of progress in a single weekend with a Kodo Couples Intensive. A private retreat for couples ready to do the deep work, grounded in RLT, EMDR, and EFT.
Led by Sheena Simpson, LMFT #156841WHAT IS AN INTENSIVEMonths of therapy.
One weekend.
Traditional weekly couples therapy happens in small doses. 50 minutes at a time, with days of life in between. Progress can be meaningful, but it's often slow.
A couples therapy intensive in Marin County is different. Over two full days, we work continuously, tracking patterns as they happen, staying with them, and shifting them in real time.
This format creates depth, momentum, and change that’s difficult to reach in weekly sessions.
You don't just leave with more insight, you leave with something already different between you.
“We weren't sure we'd make it. We left knowing we would.”
Why couples therapy intensives work
Most couples don't struggle because they lack insight. They struggle because they don't have enough uninterrupted time to actually shift the pattern.
A couples therapy intensive provides continuous, focused time for real change — something that weekly couples therapy often cannot offer.
-
50 minutes, then back to daily lifeEnough time to stay with something until it actually changes
-
Patterns reset before they can changeWe don’t move on, we stay with it until something different happens.
-
The hard moment arrives, the session endsThe moment you'd normally stop — we keep going
-
Progress starts — then gets interruptedYou feel the shift while you're still sitting across from each other
-
Leave with homework and hopeYou don't leave with homework — you leave already different
Ready to do
the deep work.
Intensives work best for couples who are committed to change. Couples who know something isn't working and are ready to face it directly.
The same argument, over and over; escalation without repair.
Distance that has grown into disconnection. You're functioning but not close.
After infidelity or betrayal, trying to rebuild trust, but stuck.
Life transitions (kids, illness, career shifts) that have destabilized the relationship.
Couples who've tried weekly therapy and want to go deeper, faster, in a private setting.
You’re questioning whether to stay but don’t want to make the wrong decision.
Intensives are not the right fit if: There is ongoing verbal abuse, contempt, or intimidation that isn’t being containedOne partner is unwilling to take any responsibility for their impactYou’re looking for communication tips or quick fixes, rather than real changeOne of you has already decided to leave and is not open to exploring the relationshipThere is active addiction or untreated mental health issues are dominating the dynamic
HOW THE INTENSIVE WORKS
A structured process, guided in real time
Preparation
Before we meet, you’ll each complete an intake process so we understand your history, your patterns, and what’s been difficult to shift.
We don’t start from scratch and start oriented to what matters.
Before
2 Full Days
We're not just talking about patterns, we're working through them in real time. Drawing on RLT, EMDR, EFT, and somatic approaches, we guide the process, interrupt when needed, and keep us focused on what's actually happening between you.
This is not a passive process, and it's also what makes the work effective.
During the intensive
Integration
You’ll receive a personalized roadmap, not a generic handout so the work doesn’t stay in the room.
Two follow-up sessions are included to help you integrate what shifted and carry it into daily life.

Who you’ll be working with
Sheena specializes in couples work; it is the center of her practice, not a side offering. Her approach is direct, warm, and focused on helping couples move through what is actually stuck. Her work integrates Relational Life Therapy, EMDR, and somatic approaches to shift patterns that insight alone cannot change.

Erma works with couples who feel stuck and want a more honest, connected relationship. She helps partners slow down, understand what’s happening between them, and shift those patterns in real time. She integrates Relational Life Therapy, the Gottman Method, and somatic work to support meaningful, lasting change.

INVESTMENT
$3980
This is two full days of focused, private work on your relationship, built entirely around the two of you.
We’re not just talking about patterns.
We’re working through them in real time, with enough space to actually shift what’s been stuck.
The fee includes preparation, both full days, a personalized roadmap, and two follow-up sessions to support integration.
Most couples come in after months, sometimes years, of trying to work through this on their own.
This is where things finally start to move.
A deposit secures your dates, and the remaining balance is due before the intensive begins.
-
This is for couples who feel stuck, not just frustrated.
If weekly therapy hasn’t shifted the pattern, or things feel like they’re looping, the intensive format gives us enough time to actually work through it.
-
That’s common. We don’t require equal readiness, we work with what’s present. Often, one partner starting the process is enough to begin shifting the dynamic.
-
No. It’s a different way of working.
Weekly therapy often resets each session and moves in pieces. In an intensive, we stay with the pattern as it unfolds and work through it in real time, without interruption. That continuity is what allows deeper shifts to happen.
What most couples want to know before reaching out
-
This is not a fit if there is ongoing verbal abuse, active addiction without accountability, or if one partner is already fully out of the relationship.
-
You’ll leave with a clear understanding of your pattern and a roadmap for what to do next. Two follow-up sessions are included to support integration as you return to daily life. Some couples choose occasional tune-up sessions to stay on track.
-
Most couples feel a shift during the intensive itself, not just insight, but a different experience of each other. The question becomes how you carry that forward.
